As I read “The Bajaro Method”, I thought that the author’s understanding of the emotional impact of our environments was helpful. At first I did not understand what Barbara Kaplan meant when she said that “Rooms don’t have feelings, you do.” Then, as I continued through the chapters, I had an “A-ha” moment. I came to a deeper understanding of how the design choices I make affect the emotions of the occupants. As a young designer, it is up to me to ask the right questions and make a healing, comforting and personal environment. I also have been inspired to look around my own home and think about what changes I want to make for myself and my family. I am pleased with the insight that I gained from reading this book.

Barbara was a godsend for my family. She helped me totally remodel my home and it is so much nicer than I could have hoped for. Barbara made it easy to select furniture. I went to the furniture store four times and found nothing. Then, I went with Barbara and found all my new furniture at one time, and it’s amazing! I wanted purple; she found me purple sofas and beautiful area rugs. She also planned out a redesign for my whole house that is open, functional and beautiful. I love my whole space, from the bathroom through the kitchen. The tile, flooring, color of the walls and kitchen layout; all make me feel comfortable and peaceful, in my home. It’s upbeat and fits my personality. It really beats the old stuff that I couldn’t stand to look at, anymore. If you want a fantastic space and a real “at home” feeling, employ Barbara and enjoy the whole process!

My skill set doesn’t include any of those required to envision a beautiful and gracious home. I want to open the door, walk in and have it be me and done. How to get there, well, there was the rub! I didn’t even know my colors, never even thought about them. This is not to say that I was lazy and disinterested in everything. I have my reason to be and I feel very comfortable in my role on the planet. I just didn’t know at that time that I had any crossover skills. Barbara was able to get me to focus, gently and lovingly, and to become interested in selecting fabrics and tasks of that sort. Ultimately, all of the choices were mine and my husband’s. I understand why I made each and everyone and I love it all. Barbara’s gentle guidance opened me up to this new world that I tip toed in until I became comfortable. I took the questionnaire from the Bajaro Method online and it really made me think about my home and what my preferences are. I realized that my space is my sanctuary. I found the quizzes very helpful to really discover more about my likes, dislikes and what makes me feel comfortable. It made me consider choices outside my normal “box” of ideas. As a result of the questionnaires, I would like to add more color and include more items that are soothing to me and reflect my personality.
